Senufo Female Kneeling Figure

Kneeling, but not in defeat. The Senufo of Ivory Coast made small cast figures that diviners kept and others wore as personal charms, valued for their protective associations.

She is three and a half inches tall, made in the 20th century. Her arms are held straight at her sides, banded bracelets at the upper arms and wrists. The ovoid head bears a crested coiffure, the face round eyes, a long straight nose and an open mouth. Raised scarification patterns mark her torso from between the breasts down to the navel. The surface is dark greenish brown, smooth and softly worn.

Keep her near. That is what she was made for.
