Rings Fashion

Djenne, in the inland delta of Mali, where a horse cost a fortune. Rings in silver, bronze, brass and gold run from cast ritual pieces to hand-forged modern bands. The lost-wax casters of Djenne made bronze rings topped with tiny horse-and-rider figures, a mark of rank in a region where horses had to be imported at great cost from the Arab world. Himalayan rings set turquoise and coral in silver; Indian and Southeast Asian rings carry devotional symbols and gods. Contemporary hand-made rings continue the long use of the ring as a sign of devotion and bond.

Keep them in a lacquer box or a celadon dish. Small objects, long memories.

In the collection now: Cameroonian Bronze Figural Ring, Kotoko Ring with Animal Motif, and Kotoko Ring with Bird Motif.
