Antique & Vintage Lighting

Before the switch there was the flame, and every culture had its own way of carrying it. Antique and vintage lighting comes from before electricity and its early decades: brass and iron lanterns, oil lamps in clay, bronze and brass, carved and turned candlestands, early electric fixtures in glass and metal. Chinese palace lanterns, Japanese andon in paper and wood, Moroccan pierced brass, Indian temple lamps, Dutch and English iron candlestands, Roman terracotta oil lamps. Smoke-darkened brass, wax drips and worn turning belong to the history. Converted to electricity or kept for candlelight, an old fixture gives a dining table or a hallway the warmth of real patina. The dark, politely held at bay.

In the collection now: Malian Iron Oil Lamp and Moroccan Lantern with Pierced Work.
