About this piece

Seven discs. One in the middle, six around it. A flower, if you look from above.

The Senufo of the Ivory Coast wore rings like this as personal adornment, and some carried protective or ceremonial meaning. This one is iron, made in the 20th century. Each disc is worked in concentric ridged rings and crowned with a small raised boss. The patina is a soft gray-green, darker in the recesses. It measures three inches across.

On its stand it reads as a small sculpture. Imagine the finger it was made for.
