About this piece

Four feet and more. She stands with her arms around her belly, and she has been doing it for a very long time.

This is a standing female ancestor in stone, of the akwanshi or neubaa type, from Cameroon, though her origin is indeterminate. Large carved stones like this remain among the least understood works of the continent. A tall crested coiffure, softly closed eyes, a broad nose, full lips. The shoulders slope into a column-like body with small breasts and arms curving around a rounded belly. The dark gray stone is rough and granular, weathered.

Fifty inches. Clear a corner. She will do the rest.
