About this piece
Under two inches tall, and the horse has already pricked up its ears. Something has happened. The rider, flat-topped cap on, arms tucked to chest, is taking it in stride.
Riders on horseback were made across Cameroon by the lost-wax method, and the horse itself has long carried associations of rank and authority. This bronze was cast in the 20th century. The horse arches its neck, legs set firmly apart. The tall, slender rider holds still. The surface is a warm coppery brown, flecked with green patina, especially around the rider and the saddle.
A great deal of character for the square footage.
