Congolese Wood Textile Hanger

Cloth was hung and displayed in Congolese homes long before anyone thought of calling it decor.

Hence the textile hanger. This wooden rod is thirty-seven inches long, carved in the Republic of Congo in the 20th century. It swells slightly through the middle and tapers to a fine point. The other end wears a rounded knob bound in fiber and leather, with a small tassel of strands spilling loose. The wood is deep reddish-brown, with a soft sheen from handling.

Lay it along a mantel. Quiet company.
