Congolese Wood Textile Hanger

Thirty-two inches, slender, and in no hurry. This is a Congolese textile hanger from the 20th century, and it has the patience of an object that has held cloth up to the light for years.

Textiles were treasured in Central Africa. A simple carved rod let them be hung, aired and shown. The wood swells slightly through the middle and tapers to a long point. The other end finishes in a small notched finial with a forked tip. The brown is deep and even, with a soft sheen and light marks that read as careful use.

Some objects ask for very little. This one asks for a wall.
