About this piece

Wealth, in Dogon country, had four legs and a bridle.

The horse stood for prestige, and the rider is a recurring figure in Dogon sculpture. This one was cast in bronze in Mali in the early 20th century. The horse is an open rectangular frame on four straight legs, its tall neck topped with a head crowned in small knobs and bound with a rope-like bridle. The rider sits upright, one hand raised to his pointed chin, the other holding a round object forward. Gray-green patina. Five inches tall, on its base.

Put it among other small sculpture. It will not be intimidated.
