Dogon Seated Female Figure

She is slender and seated, and quiet. The Dogon admired the type.

This figure was made in metal by the Dogon of Mali in the 20th century. Figures like her were created for personal and protective purposes and often kept within the household. Three and a half inches tall, she has a long columnar torso and small breasts. Her narrow face has a long nose and rounded ears. Thin legs descend to feet on a small base.

The surface is mottled in gray, black and pale deposits, speckled, almost like stone. Elongated, and entirely typical of Dogon miniature sculpture. Typical, here, is a compliment.
