About this piece

She holds out a wide bowl, at hip level, with both long arms. It is not clear for whom.

The Dogon of Mali cast metal figures by the lost-wax technique, and they were associated with family shrines and the honoring of ancestors. This small bronze woman, 20th century, stands upright, legs straight and parallel. A crested coiffure, a narrow face, a ringed neck and pointed breasts are crisply defined. The patina is dark, almost black, with faint traces of green and earth.

Two and a half inches tall, on a simple black base.

Hospitable, in a compact way.
