Dogon Standing Male Figure, Based

He has somewhere to be, and he is carrying what he needs.

This small standing man is Dogon, from Mali, 20th century. Figures of this size were kept on altars and carried as protective objects, and they often show their subjects equipped for daily life. A strap runs diagonally across his chest, and at the hip he holds a pouch or bundle. His knees are slightly bent, his feet broad. A long neck supports a rounded head with a ridged brow, wide-set eyes and a jutting mouth, and a band circles the waist. The dark patina is smooth, worn lighter on the raised areas.

Five inches, on a black base. Ready, and unhurried.
