Ethiopian Lithograph
About this piece
A harp, a crown, a blue curtain tied back. Ethiopia has been painting this scene a long time.
This contemporary lithograph is printed in ink on paper and follows the devotional style of traditional Ethiopian painting. A crowned figure with a golden halo sits on a throne beneath a looped blue curtain, playing a tall lyre-like harp. The subject recalls King David at his harp, a scene beloved in Ethiopian religious art. His robe falls in deep red folds over a gray-green garment, with large almond eyes and bold dark outlines. Warm ochre and terracotta fill the background above a stepped floor.
Eight and a half by eleven inches, with a generous white margin. Give the king a frame.
