Figure Depicting King of Chad

The king is on the move. The retinue goes ahead of him, on foot.

Small lost-wax castings of figures, riders and animals have long been made in Chad, often recording everyday and courtly life in lively detail. This miniature bronze from the 20th century puts the king high on his mount, wearing a wide conical hat, the horse’s long neck curving forward. A line of slender attendants walks before him, one leading a small animal on a lead.

About five inches tall and eight long, on a thin cast base. The bronze is golden, touched with dark patina and green. A procession that fits on a shelf. Make way.
