About this piece
Hang it, tie it, tuck the grain inside. The Gurunsi had it worked out long ago.
This round storage vessel was made in Burkina Faso in the 20th century by Gurunsi women potters, who built such pots by hand for grain and other provisions. Fiber cords were often used to hang them or secure their covers. The globular body is warm reddish brown, with raised ridges framing the shoulder and a band that dips around a central oval boss. Twisted cords loop through small holes and fall in long strands ending in soft tassels. The burnished surface shows gentle scuffing.
A little over eight inches. Generous, round, unhurried.
