Ibibio Seated Male Fetish Room Guardian Figure

He sits facing forward and he does not blink. The shrine room is in good hands.

This seated male guardian figure is terra cotta, from the Ibibio peoples of southeastern Nigeria, made in the 20th century. Figures of this kind were made to watch over shrine rooms, their upright, frontal pose and fixed gaze signaling protection and authority. He stands, or rather sits, thirty inches high.

That is a lot of fired clay. Give him a console or a plinth, and a clear view of the door.
