About this piece

Wear it on the arm, spend it at the market. Ivory Coast saw no contradiction.

This bronze armlet served as currency. Metal ornaments like it were valued as adornment and as stores of wealth, changing hands in trade and in marriage exchanges. A wide, open cuff curves into an almost complete circle, its gap letting it slip onto the arm. Fine rope-twist borders run along both edges, with faint incised hatching on the outer face. Soft gray-brown, darker inside. Twentieth century, just over six inches across.

A bit of age and handling shows at the opening. Good money always does.
