About this piece
A narrow base, ten inches long, and everyone on it is going somewhere.
The Kotoko of Chad worked in the lost-wax method, and their small scenes of riders and attendants give a glimpse of ceremony and daily life along the Chari and Logone rivers. This early 20th-century bronze group begins at the left with two riders sharing one long-eared mount. In the center a lone horseman rides with an arm raised. To the right, three slender figures stand linked by a bar across their shoulders, and a tall figure brings up the rear.
A soft green patina settles over the granular bronze. The parade never reaches the end of the shelf.
