Lobi Standing Female Figure, Based

Four and a half inches tall. Feet planted. Arms held away from the body, ending in large flat hands, as if she were about to say something.

The Lobi of Burkina Faso made figures in wood, clay and metal for their shrines, where they acted as helpers and protectors. Small metal figures were also carried or worn for personal protection. This one is cast bronze, 20th century. The face is broad and smiling, the ears wide. Small pointed breasts, a marked navel.

A smooth, deep brown patina, with greenish traces in the hollows.

She is smiling. You may stay.
