Yoruba Ibeji or 'Twins' Figure

Carvers in Yoruba country were never shy about a hairstyle. This one wears a high, ridged crest, combed in fine lines, like a rooster who has made it to a banquet.

The face is dark and glossy, the smile slightly crooked, the body a warm reddish brown that darkens toward the shoulders. Arms hang square at the sides. Round base, worn at the edges. An ibeji figure from Nigeria, twentieth century, about nine and a half inches tall.

Wood, and the long habit of being handled.

Small. Not minor.
