About this piece

The horse is a recurring character in Dogon art. Prestige rides on it. So does authority.

Here he stands atop an iron ring, made in the 20th century by the Dogon peoples of Mali or Burkina Faso. Straight legs, a long arching tail, a small head bowed forward with incised eyes. A gently curved saddle waits on his back, and the band of the ring curves beneath him. The iron is smooth and dark, a little lighter where the high points have caught the light.

He comes on a custom stand. No rider required.
