Dogon Seated Female Figure

She sits on a low stool, long arms at rest on her knees.

The seated woman is a recurring theme among the Dogon of Mali, and small metal figures of this kind were kept as personal and altar objects. This one was cast in iron in the early 20th century.

A crested coiffure, an elongated face, a ringed collar. Breasts that hang low over a narrow torso. The surface is a dark, near-black patina spotted with green and silvery encrustation. Three inches tall.

Composure, in iron.
