Lighting
Before the wire, there was flame. Every lamp in the world began as a way of getting through the evening.
Lighting means antique and vintage fixtures from Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and the Americas: Chinese and Japanese lanterns in wood, paper and brass; Moroccan and Turkish pierced metal lanterns; Indian brass oil lamps and temple diyas; European iron candlestands and chandeliers; Roman and Middle Eastern clay oil lamps. New designs from AERIN, Oly and Ralph Lauren Home join them.
Many of these forms were made for oil and candle. Patinated brass, hammered iron, mica, glass and carved wood decide how a fixture colors the light it gives. A pierced Moroccan lantern throws a lace of shadow across a stairwell ceiling; a pair of turned candlestands frames a fireplace.
The sun, after all, only works the day shift.
In the collection now: Moroccan Lantern with Pierced Work and Malian Iron Oil Lamp.
