Bambara Crouching Male Figure with Rifle, Based

A hunter in the bush knew things other men did not. The Bambara respected him for it.

Bambara figures often depict hunters, and firearms joined their equipment as they became available. This crouching bronze man from Mali, early 20th century, kneels low on one knee, a long rifle angled upward before him, the trigger guard clearly modeled. His round head has a strong brow, a pointed nose and a small beard. The compact body is full of tension and concentration.

A dark, deep brown patina with rough mineral texture covers the whole figure. Five inches tall.
