About this piece
The Middle Atlas is not a place that takes advice.
The Beni Ourain people live in those Moroccan mountains, and their geographic isolation kept them, historically, free of Arabic design influence. Their rugs carry abstracted representations of the world and landscapes around them, following no rule or formal pattern.
This one is wool, woven in the mid 20th century, about six by eight and a half feet. Large, plush, and made with a freshness and spontaneity found nowhere else.
Lay it down. The room will take the hint.
