About this piece
Chin up, neck long, one arm wrapped in coils. He appears to be listening for something far off.
Small cast figures from the Lake Chad region were made by the lost-wax method and often carried or worn as personal charms. This bronze man was cast in Chad in the 20th century and stands three and three-quarter inches tall. A spiral disc sits against the body near the hip. The legs are long and straight, ending in small feet. A heavy green and earthy crust covers much of the metal, which gives him a weathered, excavated look. A square black base supports him.
Dirt and verdigris. He wears both well.
