Congolese Wood Textile Hanger

Fan-shaped, finely incised, bound at the neck. Even a hanger for cloth was allowed some vanity.

Carved from wood in the Republic of Congo, 20th century. Thirty-seven and a half inches, made for hanging and displaying cloth. That flattened end, joined to the shaft by a narrow, bound neck, is the thing to notice. From there the rod swells gently and tapers to a sharp point. The wood is a cool gray-brown with a soft, worn sheen.

Mount it level on a plain wall. Less is the whole argument.
