About this piece

One long arm out, thumb extended, hand open.

Dogon figures in gestures of kneeling or supplication are generally associated with prayer and with ritual offerings at altars. This small bronze, cast in Mali in the 20th century, is three inches tall. It kneels with the legs folded beneath. The face is boldly modeled, with round eyes and a broad, projecting mouth, and small breasts and a pronounced navel are shown on the torso.

The surface is dark, nearly black, with a soft sheen and tiny pale spots of wear.

The request, whatever it was, has not been withdrawn.
