About this piece

Palms pressed together. In Dogon sculpture, the hands do a good deal of the talking.

This small bronze was cast in Mali in the 20th century by the lost-wax process. The figure sits upright on a curved bar, knees together, hands joined before the chest. A tall crest rises above a narrow face, and bands are worked at the wrists and knees. The bar beneath is wrapped in a twisted cord pattern, with knobbed pendants hanging below and short rods at each end. The patina is a rough, earthy brown.

Four inches, raised on a slim rod and base. It has finished its prayer and is waiting for yours.
