Ethiopian Coptic Cross Amulet

In the Orthodox Christian tradition there, silversmiths produced a remarkable variety of forms. This pendant, in coin silver, is about two inches tall. Four flaring arms with softly rounded tips, and a gently tapering upper arm leading to a rolled copper-toned bail. Each arm is decorated with punched dot lines forming triangles and chevrons that echo the outline of the cross. Fine scratches and a soft gray luster across the surface speak to years of wear against cloth and skin.
