About this piece
Three legs, one block of wood, and a stance that looks nearly alive.
This stool comes from Ethiopia and dates to the 20th century. Stools like it are found throughout the country, serving as everyday seating and often counted among a family’s most personal possessions. The round seat is gently dished, its rim bordered with rows of small punched dots. Three thick legs sweep outward and down, ending in curved, foot-like terminals. A warm reddish-brown patina, worn smooth on the seat, and visible tool marks speak to long use. It stands just under thirteen inches high.
Use it for a seat. Or use it for a plant. It will not mind.
