About this piece
A rider, an arm thrown forward, a horse with its neck arched. Under three inches, and already moving.
The Kotoko of Chad, around Lake Chad, cast small figures by the lost-wax method, often horsemen, that were worn, kept or given. This bronze, made in the 20th century, gives its rider a ribbed cap and a round disc on his chest, perhaps a shield. The horse has a bridled head and four tapering legs.
Golden highlights on the worn surface. Darker hollows beneath. Compact, and quite sure where it is going.
