About this piece
A horse, a rider, a reach. The Kotoko left out everything else.
Kotoko metalworkers are known for miniature figures cast by the lost-wax method, often worn or kept as personal charms, and this bronze equestrian is from Chad, 20th century. Just over two inches long, it stands a horse on four long, tapering, splayed legs, with a slender upright rider reaching forward with one thin arm.
At the far end, a spiky crest and an open looping curl. The bronze is a warm golden tone, with darker patches and small traces of green from age.
Small things travel well. This one prefers to gallop.
