About this piece

Rod of iron, bent into a snake. Protective, if you ask the Lobi.

Forged in Burkina Faso in the 20th century, this iron served as currency. Iron objects in many shapes were a medium of exchange across West Africa, and the snake carries protective associations in Lobi belief.

A single rod is bent into a tight series of undulating curves, ending in a raised head that turns upward from the body. The iron is rough and pitted, a warm rust-orange. A little over five inches long.

Not dangerous. Merely persuasive.
