About this piece
Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech: the rooms differ, but the light does not.
In Moroccan interiors, pierced metal casts patterns of light around a room, and the lantern is a familiar feature. This one is bronze, made in the 20th century, 23 inches high, on a stepped, many-sided base set on small ball feet. Tall glass panels rise under pointed arches, with lacy pierced work in the spandrels and a lattice band at the bottom. The pyramidal roof is pierced with floral patterns and topped by a ribbed finial.
An even dark brown patina, with warm highlights.
Light a candle and the walls begin to speak.
