Yoruba Male Ibeji or 'Twins' Figure

He wears his beads like a man dressed for an occasion. A string of small colored ones at the neck, a looped band of pale ones at the waist, and a trailing strand of blue, orange and green at the side.

A male Yoruba ibeji from Nigeria, twentieth century, wood, under nine inches tall. Dark skin, a sharply ridged crest of hair, a face that mixes solemnity with a faint smile. He stands on a low, round pedestal.

The wood has gone deep and glossy, with warmer patches where the red shows.

Very well turned out, and not at all stiff about it.
