Burkinabe Bronze Standing Figure, Based

Small enough to carry, small enough to set among other offerings, and wearing a hat with something perched on its brim.

This bronze figure was cast in Burkina Faso in the early 20th century and measures four inches. Miniature figures like it were made in the region as personal amulets and shrine objects. A flat-topped hat bears a small knot or creature, and tufts project at either side of the face. His arms bend across the chest, the hands meeting over the body, and a flared tunic falls to the knees above thin legs. The surface is crusty and mottled, gray-green with touches of red earth. Small brackets hold the feet on a black base.

The creature stays unidentified.
