About this piece
A ring on top of the head, for hanging, most likely. He has been carried before.
Dogon smiths worked in the lost-wax method, producing small figures used as personal charms and shrine pieces. This bronze man was cast in Mali in the 20th century and stands six inches tall. He is rigidly upright on two long, columnar legs ending in flat, squared feet, above a bearded face with a firm brow. The arms, ringed with bands at the upper arm, drop to hold a curved, blade-like object across the lower body.
The bronze is dark, with traces of green settled in the recesses.
Straight-backed, and armed.
