About this piece

On a Dogon altar, a small bronze could stand in for an ancestor. It did not need to be large to be believed.

This standing man was cast in Mali in the 20th century and stands six inches tall. He is strongly frontal, with broad squared shoulders, long arms hanging close to the body, and large hands resting at the thighs. The head is small and narrow with a crested coiffure, set on a long neck, and a band circles the waist.

The dark surface is mottled with patches of bright green corrosion.

A desk or a narrow shelf will do. He is accustomed to waiting.
