Yombe Standing Female Figure, Based

She keeps her hands on her head. It frames the face, and the face does the rest.

This standing female figure was carved by the Yombe peoples of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 20th century. Yombe carvers are known for figures with inset eyes and fine scarification, and such figures often served in rituals of healing, protection and honoring ancestors. She stands eleven and a half inches tall. Bright inset eyes and a slightly open mouth give her an alert look. Raised scarification marks the chest. A small carved head sits beside one foot.

The surface is a mottled reddish-brown with a warm, handled sheen. Greet her when you walk in.
