Photography Fine Art

A Havana street in 2005, a stranger’s face half in shadow, and a camera that arrived at just the right moment.

Photography ranges from documentary images of China’s Cultural Revolution to contemporary fine-art work from Cuba, the United States, Italy and the United Kingdom. Untitled photographs from the Angels of Havana series, 2005, capture the city’s streets and faces. A contemporary series on the planet’s fate, Aurora, Murmuration and others, is printed in archival pigment on paper. Period prints from the early twentieth century and Mao-era propaganda photographs sit alongside, with picture frames in sterling silver and cedar.

Photographs reward close hanging: a tight grid in a hallway, a single large print above a daybed, a run of frames along steel shelving where they can be read like a book.

The moment, caught. The wall, taken.

In the collection now: Color Photograph, Cuba, Anthropocene Mountain - Framed, and Anthropocene Mountain - Framed.
