Tables Dining & Conference

Shanxi, a northern workshop, an adze, a long table taking shape. Dining and conference tables range from antique Chinese elmwood to contemporary pieces in oak, walnut, mahogany and resin. Long jiali tables in Shanxi elm show the adzed undersides and pegged joints of northern Chinese workshops; bronze rain drums from Thailand and Burma, their tympana cast with frogs, become pedestal tables under a round glass or stone top. A few French pieces, Indonesian and Indian hardwood tables and Mongolian painted pieces join contemporary designs such as the Tangier, Trousdale, Grafton and Duke pedestal tables.

A dining table sets the scale of a room. Old elm with its lacquer worn thin is warm under a low pendant; a rain drum base brings bronze and myth to the breakfast room; a long walnut table doubles as a desk for books and papers. Everyone ends up around it eventually.
