Necklaces Fashion

In a Fulani village, a woman’s wealth is on view, and it hangs around her neck.

Necklaces in silver, brass, glass, amber and stone come from West Africa, the Himalaya, India and Europe. Fulani women wear amber and gold as visible wealth. Baltic amber, fossil resin carried along the Amber Road since prehistory, runs from honey to cherry red. Dogon strands mix brass, stone and old trade glass; Czech and Venetian beads add clear color.

Laid across a dresser, an old necklace has the presence of a small sculpture.

No pockets, no purse, no vault. Just the neck.
