PRIMITIVE Modern Fine Art

A concrete wall. An antique bronze on the table in front of it. Between them, a painting by a living hand.

PRIMITIVE Modern is contemporary painting, drawing and printmaking by living artists. Brian Sindler, trained in Chicago at the American Academy of Art and in a French-style atelier, paints landscapes, port towns and nocturnes in oil, acrylic and gouache from a five-color palette. Bob Meyer, Chicago-born and now working in a village near Giverny, makes pencil drawings, pastels, lithographs and oils peopled with wind-up toys and theatrical figures, titled like the first lines of stories. Mark Westervelt completes the group, and limited-edition prints, including Sindler’s Tuscany gouaches, carry the work onto paper.

Hung among antique objects, contemporary work and old things sharpen each other.

Old and new, arguing amiably.

In the collection now: French Primitive Modern Print: Signed and Numbered 3 of 25 with RM Mark; Unframed and Work on Paper.
