Works on Paper

A face cut from dried paint and set on bare paper. Mark Westervelt’s works on paper carry his dried-paint method onto a lighter ground: skins of acrylic and latex, peeled from plastic sheets, cut and adhered to the sheet so the paper itself shows through around faces and figures. Glossy paint, matte paint and bare paper give the drawings a cut-out crispness. The Chicago painter draws on Picasso, Matisse and outsider art to picture people in extreme states.

With a wide mat, they suit a bedroom or a study where a large canvas would crowd. Intensity, at a polite size.
