Beds Headboards
A bed needs a face. Headboards frame the head of the bed against the wall in carved wood panels, rattan insets, plaited leather and upholstered forms. Old carved panels from Chinese, Indian and Indonesian doors, screens and temple friezes are often reused this way, their relief worn soft at the edges, and custom headboards in walnut or mahogany pair with low platform beds.
Set against a dark wall, a carved headboard throws its relief into shadow and becomes the central picture of the room. Sleep beneath something worth looking at.
In the collection now: Toraja Tongkonan or Ancestral House Panel and Toraja Lumbung or Rice House Gable.
