The weather is a collaborator. Garden pieces and accessories include antique ornaments, stone and terracotta planters, carved stone figures and old seating from Asia, Europe and the Americas. Chinese carved granite and scholar’s rocks, Balinese guardian figures in soft volcanic stone, Indian sandstone troughs, English lead and cast iron, and French zinc and terracotta urns were all made to live outdoors and wear the weather well. Moss in the carving, lichen on a rim and stone softened by rain are part of their character. Set at the end of a path, beside a pool or in a garden room under glass, a single weathered stone or planter anchors the green around it.
