Mirrors Home & Accessories

Old mirror glass is a kind of weather. The silvering clouds, the edges go smoky, and everyone looks a little kinder.

Mirrors for the home come from India, Morocco, Indonesia, China, Europe and the Americas. Indian frames are carved in teak or clad in hammered brass and silver; Moroccan mirrors come in painted cedar and camel bone. Javanese frames are carved with foliage. Add Venetian etched glass, French giltwood trumeaux and Spanish colonial tin from Mexico, each framing the glass in the craft of its region. Old silvered plates, foxed and clouded at the edges, give a soft and smoky reflection.

Hung above a console, a mirror doubles the light of an entry or dining room.

Flattering, in the oldest sense.
