Tribal

Before it was a cushion, it was a skirt, a bedcover, a household cloth. Tribal pillows are made from the working textiles of village and nomadic peoples: Kuba raffia skirts and Shoowa cut-pile from the Congo, Mossi and Dogon cotton from Burkina Faso and Mali, Banjara mirror embroidery from India, Turkmen and Bessarabian kilims, and Uzbek bugzhoma bedding ornaments. Each was cut down and sewn into a cushion so its weave and stitch stay in daily view. Mixed on a leather sofa or a stone bench, they bring texture and the hand of the maker. Retirement, with a better seat.

In the collection now: Kuba Shoowa Prestige Panel Pillow and Kuba Tcaka or Dance Skirt Pillow.
