Bob Meyer
A village near Giverny, a cave in the hillside, and chalk from it laid under the paint. Bob Meyer is a Chicago-born artist who now works there, outside Paris. He studied at Southern Illinois University, with scholarships to Ox-Bow and the Art Institute of Chicago, founded the Gare St. Lazare Players and directed more than sixty plays and a feature film before moving to France. His pencil drawings, pastels, lithographs, hand-worked archival pigment prints and oils on linen and cotton share a fine, almost ethereal line. Wind-up toys, theatrical figures, childhood and intimacy recur, and his titles finish the story the image begins. On a quiet bedroom wall the work holds close attention. Small plots, told softly.
